Have you ever had the pleasure of taking your tongs and dipping down into a basket full of beautiful Blue Crabs?  You spot that one crab that is just backed up so tightly against the side of the basket on top of the heap of other crabs….just waiting for you to take a stab at getting him out.  Somehow, that crab knows the likely fate that awaits and is not fond of the outcome.  He is ready for you!!

But you….you are the great and powerful crabber, and YOU HAVE THE TONGS! So you size him up, let him get really settled into his spot and then you POUNCE, tongs going for that most vulnerable position, avoiding the claws.  You get him on the first try and up you go, only to have several “hangers-on” attached to your target.

You see, crabs look out for one another. They try to protect their buddies from misfortune and THEY STICK TOGETHER….literally.  Always the chivalrous one, Jimmy tries to “save” his female companion from the extraction.  She, on the other hand, is doing her part to try and keep them together, no matter what their fate may be.  And the last crab way down in the bottom of the basket, having observed the repeated snatch-and-grab scenes, has resigned himself to the end result and isn’t fighting the inevitable.
